SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT PREVIOUS PAGE
This morning, December 4, 2009, Marky was taken in for surgery on his mouth. Dr. Smith removed all but 7 teeth. We are hoping he will be able to keep the 7 remaining teeth which will make it a little easier for him to be able to eat. As of 2:30 p.m. he is recuperating nicely and will be able to go back to his foster home later this afternoon.
Jim and Linda are anxiously awaiting his return and will monitor him for approximately 2 weeks to make sure all is going well. He will return to Dr. Smith for a checkup during this time. If all is going well Jim and Linda will bring Marky to our Petsmart (located at Loop 410 NW and Summit Parkway (LaCima) for those of you that would like to visit with him will have the opportunity to see how he’s doing and hopefully you’ll understand why we came to you for help with this sweet boy. We want to share our joy in his recuperation with those of you that so generously donated to see he got what he needs to lead a happy healthy life. Please visit our website and we will posting the date and time that he will be available to accept visitors!!
We are also hoping to have our Blossom girl and Tumbleweed also available at this time so you can see the next two kitties that will be getting the same surgery done that Marky just went through. We will ask Dr. Smith to evaluate the two of them and surgery will be scheduled for them once Marky is healed (hopefully in 2 weeks). With the help you gave us we are now going to be able to get all these kitties fixed up and ready to go out and find forever homes.
Thanks to YOU - Thanksgiving day was celebrated joyously by all of us at AWSBC. By Christmas YOU will have enabled us to open up a whole new world for these precious pets!! A life without pain, a life that will now include being able to find them forever loving homes that wasn’t in their future before KENS 5 reported our story. Our gratitude is overwhelming and our faith in the human race has been restored. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Marky went home with Jim and Linda on the 5th – Dr. Smith wanted to make sure he was doing okay so she kept him overnight. Jim and Linda told me today (12-08-09) that Marky is eating and actually coming out to play with their kitties!! He used to hide and not join in to romp and play – we know his mouth would hurt if one of them would accidentally hit him so he hid a lot. Now he is actually joining in the playtime. He is scheduled to go back to see Dr. Smith in 2 weeks.
Just an FYI – on Saturday (11-28-09) we intook a young sweet Flame Pt. Siamese that will need to have her right leg amputated. It had been broken in 3 places and just hangs straight out in the air. She has been living in a backyard where there is a privacy fence so she couldn’t get out of the yard. The people that live next door have been feeding her and they took her inside with them on Thursday when the weather got bad and contacted us. We have her in a foster home now and will be able to amputate the leg next week – thanks to Markys Legacy Fund!! Again, thanks to YOU and your donation! We feel that this kitty was someone’s kitty – she is so sweet and gentle – and must have gotten hurt and couldn’t make it back home. At least that’s what our hope is – we hope someone didn’t just dump her after she got hurt. Dr. Boon (at the 151 Banfield Petsmart store) poked and prodded her and she never once tried to bite – she seemed to know we were trying to help her. We will feature her on our website as soon as the foster family gets us a picture! I hope I’ve stated it right – she is a she and not a he!! Gender doesn’t mean a lot to us – we just want to get them all treated!
We are scheduled to take in the Stinson Airfield dog this Friday for his first hip surgery. The vet thinks he was probably hit by one of the airplanes at the airfield. The injuries were so severe and both hips blown out of the sockets that it had to be a major “hit” that caused it – not just a car injury. He’s a young boy only about a year old and the maintenance men at the airfield would let him out of his cage so he could potty and walk with them while they did their chores. They noticed he limped but no one knew how awful the damage was on both his legs. I cringed when I saw the x-rays – this little one had to be in so much pain and yet he walked around with the maintenance men for companionship! We had him taken to a vet and had x-rays done. We couldn’t afford the $4000 needed to care for his legs but we were fortunate to have another vet hear the story and is only charging us for the meds and equipment needed to do the surgery. The vet was horrified at the condition this poor baby was in and the severity of his injuries. Again, thank God for this vet!
I took Blossom and Tumbleweed in to see Dr. Tipton this morning. Both of them have too much infection in their gums to get done now. They were given a depo shot and I will put them on antibiotics for 2 – 3 weeks and then a recheck will be done. Those poor babies’ mouths were so red and swollen – Blossom had a nasty ulcer in the back of her mouth. Hopefully the depo shot and antibiotics will get them going again and ready for surgery in 2 – 3 weeks!!
We also have a leg amputation scheduled for Friday (the flame pt. Siamese mentioned above). We have to do all this in stages because it takes special foster homes to care for them after the surgeries. But hopefully they will all be treated by the end of this year!
It is with great sorrow we have to report that we lost our little Stinson dog today during surgery. The veterinarian isn’t sure exactly what happened but we believe the injuries were so severe that the surgery was just too much for him. I was called Friday morning and told of the tragedy and went immediately to the clinic to see what had happened and to talk with the veterinarian. A necropsy was performed but it was inconclusive as to why this little boy didn’t make it. His passing has left all of us with such sadness – he was so close to being able to live a happy healthy life and then to have him snatched away before that was attained leaves a hole in our hearts. We are thankful that he had been with a foster home that was giving him love and care for the short time he was with us. With a grieving heart I bid you farewell little Stinson – please wait for me over the Rainbow Bridge and someday I’ll get to see you again as the healthy happy pup that we all so wanted you to be before you left us!
On a brighter note - our little Firefly (the Flame Pt. Siamese) had her leg amputated today. She is doing well and will be with me until tomorrow and then go to Michele and Dick for the rest of her recovery time. Pictures will be on our website in a couple of days so you can see her progress.
We also had three polyps removed from Lana today. I was amazed at the size of one of the polyps – it was huge and had to be causing this little one a lot of pain. We are sending them off to make sure they aren’t squamish cells but the veterinarian said he felt good about the surgery and thinks she will make a good recovery. She is recuperating at her foster home. When I took her back to Tina she was purring and “making biscuits” on her quilt! What a sweetheart!! She should be ready for adoption in about 3 weeks.
Linda told me today that Marky is running around and literally throwing his play toys up in the air and catching them! She said it was amazing to see the change in this little boy – he’s like a kitten again! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Blossom and Tumbleweed will be like this also.
